     Fulcher Family

Some odds and ends of information which you might find useful:

1800 Enclosure Act - William Clopton Johnson made a claim for the Stone House at Johnson Street (a hamlet of Ludham - still there) and many other cottages. His tenants included John Fulcher sen. and John Fulcher jun.  A William Fulcher shared a cottage with Isaac Gibson. (Several families shared derelict dwellings).

James Fulcher born 1787 married Hannah Turner born 1789 in about 1812
Their daughter Eleanor Fulcher had two children out of wedlock:
Harriot England Fulcher born 1833 and William Lincoln Fulcher born 1835 (died 1850)
Eleanor then married (on Feb 3rd 1840 in Ringmer Brighton) John Bunn (or Bone) born 1818 in Langham Norfolk. They subsequently emigrated to Idaho USA. They had 4 children Aaron 1840, George 1842, Mary Ann Matilda 1846 and James Frederick 1848.
Harriot married William Francis Hobrough in 1851 in Great Yarmouth

Although she was born out of wedlock, we know that William England (born 1807) is the father of Harriot.

On the 1851 census, you will see the following record for a household in The Street, Ludham:

William England, Head, Unmarried, 46, Millwright employing 3 people
Sarah England, Sister, Unmarried, 49
William H England, Nephew, Unmarried, 29, Journeyman Millwright
Harriott England, Daughter, Unmarried, 17
William ???? A visitor (merchant)
Robert Newton, Apprentice, Unmarried, 21, Millwright
They were all born Ludham.
Harriot was living with her father William at this time.

1836 - 1854 A James Fulcher listed as a wheelwright (possibly the same one as on the 1841 tithe map) having shed and yard in the center of the village owned by Mary Ann Clarke. This is no longer in existence, but was a small garden attached to Rose Cottage. James owned and occupied a house and yard (demolished 1950). A two room hovel in a row of four known as Town Row - now garden of Town House (Staithe Rd).
