     Unknown - Can you help?

Things we don't know

At the Ludham Archive we are often asked questions about the history of the village. Quite often we can answer, but sometimes, we just don't know.
Its the same with old photographs. We can often work out what is going on in the picture, but sometimes, we just don't know.

So, on this page, we are asking our many readers if you can help us identify what is going on, or help us with some obscure aspect of Ludham History. We will keep adding to this page as more mysteries appear and we will also let you know the answer when a problem is solved.

If you can help in any way, please get in touch. Our e-mail address is on the Home Page.

Questions about Ludham History

Like many villages, Ludham has a war memorial which lists those who gave their lives in the two World Wars. The Ludham Archive has researched the details of all those who are listed on the memorial and we know quite a lot about them.

However, there is one mystery person listed in the WW1 section about whom we know absolutely nothing. Well, OK, not absolutely nothing, we know his name was Arthur Webster. That much is clear as it is cut into the stone of the memorial, but we know nothing else at all. He does not appear to have lived in Ludham or to have any relatives living in the village. He does not appear to be listed amongst the war dead either. There were quite a lot of Arthur Websters who fought in the Great War but we cannot connect any of them with Ludham.

Does anyone know who Arthur Webster was? If you have any information, please let us know.

Artefacts

Every now and then, somebody brings along an interesting object for us to identify. Sometimes we just don't know.

medal
reverse
Here is a medal that has been dug up. It says "Stalham Cluster Olympics" on the back. Was this a school event? If you know anything about this medal of the Stalham Olympics, please let us know.

Update November 2014. We know this is connected with Stalham School, but we still need more information.
